Reasons to be Cheerful

They’re here and I’m back — officially one year older, and a father of two. Mum and the twins Lottie and Kate, born a week before my birthday, are doing well.

The new Raincoast website is close to being on schedule (thanks to Monique at Boxcar, Al, Tony, Jamie and Siobhan at Raincoast HQ) and daily coffee consumption — while still exceptionally high — is back to a more sustainable level. I still have that grid for Amazon to do though…

But back to the Optimist business: I missed a lot of great stuff while I was away, so expect posts every day this week (starting Monday) as I try to catch up. The interviews with book designers will hopefully return in November.

Thanks to Mark for the pep talk a couple of weeks ago, and thanks to the people who emailed and left comments while I was away.

It’s nice to be back.

Thanks Erin, Tim, and Joseph. We’re over the moon and we feel so, so lucky.

And Tim: Is that a new portfolio site dude? Looks good.

  5. Thanks Dan! Yeah, finally got my portfolio online. I’m about a week away from finishing my degree so I’ll update it then, the current one is a bit transitional.

And thanks again for your feedback on the “20 sleeps” experiment, I never replied to your email at the time but the feedback was really useful. The project has evolved into the design of a hypothetical literary imprint, with my example piece being a book about Ernest Hemingway. It will be finished in a week, I’d be keen for you to take a look then if you’ve got the time!

Tim: Congratulations! Great news about the degree. I’m glad my feedback was helpful with 20 Sleeps — I thought it was a cool project — and would LOVE to see the Hemingway design! Cheers.

  7. Congratulations!

    They’re absolutely beautiful!

Looking forward to the new website – hope to see you soon!

    Best,
    Ashleigh

    Thanks Ashleigh! Thanks Thomas!

  10. I knew it, I knew it… I knew you would post a pic here… otherwise we would need to check your new papa credentials, ha.

Dan, seriously I love this snap! It looks like one of your girls is giving her sis an earful. They are gonna love having each other to grow up with… of course you and your wife may have to remind Lottie and Kate of that at times, ha.

Thanks Amy. Your emails made me reconsider posting a picture!
