Doctorow at Bloomsbury

Whether you agree with him or not, this is an interesting — if scatter-gun — talk by Cory Doctorow on publishing, e-books, pricing, and DRM (and more) at UK publisher Bloomsbury:

There are some additional notes (and a couple of corrections!) at Cory Doctorow’s website.

  1. Thanks for posting this Dan, really very interesting stuff. I was impressed by Doctorow’s ability to breakdown, analyze, and elaborate upon some of the points of the ebook debate that we all hear about so often.

Lately, during all of this discussion about ebooks and the state of publishing, I’ve begun to wonder what the consensus on the future of art books is (I’m using that term pretty broadly to the degree that it could basically encompass any book that incorporates a lot of pictures, diagrams, etc). This seems to be an area of the publishing industry I rarely, if ever, hear mentioned when discussing ebooks and wonder if this is because it’s already somewhat of a niche market or that the idea of an art ebook doesn’t seem all that threatening. Especially when taking into account the vast number of blogs that are often assembling similar material, albeit digitially and with poorer essays (if any at all).
